One of the unique rescue problems that we have in the City of Norco is that we have hundreds of people riding their horses in areas that are inaccessible to typical motor vehicles. Areas like the Norco Hills and the river bottom. When a person is injured, especially a trauma or head injury, it is vital that we reach the patient as fast as possible and have all of our life saving equipment with us. In the past we have only had two options to use. We ride horseback (which yields varied results), or we walk. Sometimes, we walk a couple of miles while precious time goes by. Thanks to the generosity of the Norco Horsemen's Association, who donated the first ATV and to several others who have donated to the program, we have now acquired two Artic Cat ATVs from Corona Power Sports of Norco. The program includes a large enclosed trailer to bring the equipment to the scene and a patient trailer that can bring an injured person out behind an ATV. We are now able to access injured riders and others in remote areas and have the needed EMS equipment at hand. Then we are able to quickly move the patient to an area where the ambulance or other help is waiting. |
