Construction Report: WoodSpring Suites Rises
Construction of a new 122-room WoodSpring Suites hotel is rapidly progressing on the 3200 block of Hamner Avenue, on the east side of the street just north of Brake Masters. This week, framing is progressing on the third of four stories, keeping pace with an aggressive schedule that will hopefully result in guests checking in this coming summer.
WoodSpring, a value-oriented extended-stay brand owned by Choice Hotels, was attracted to Norco because of demand generated by SilverLakes, Ingalls Equestrian Event Center and the City’s strategic Inland Empire location. WoodSpring was actively recruited by City staff and the Norco hotel is one of the brand’s very first projects in Southern California. The building façade will feature Western-inspired architectural elements compatible with the Horsetown USA theme, and each suite will include a kitchen with full-size refrigerator, two-burner stovetop and microwave. The suites, ideal for families and attractively priced for multi-day stays, is also expected to be pet-friendly.
WoodSpring Suites recognized a robust hotel market in Norco, impressed by the increasing numbers of visitors to SilverLakes and Ingalls, as well substantial numbers of consultants, defense contractors and Pentagon officials conducting business at the Navy Base. The hotel industry is currently riding an unprecedented eight-year expansion, and staff is anxious to capitalize on it before rising interest rates, increasing construction costs and over-building curtail the trend.
In consideration of these current market trends, and because the City’s transient occupancy tax (TOT) generates direct revenue to the City, staff continues to encourage hospitality-related development and is actively working with other hotel operators that recognize opportunities in Norco.
