  • BACKGROUND INFORMATION

The Riverside Transmission Reliability Project (RTRP) will construct above-ground transmission lines in a wind-prone and fire-prone area along Norco’s portion of the Santa Ana River. Since 2017, the City of Norco has communicated its concerns about the RTRP and advocated for the lines to be underground.

  • New DOJ Lawsuit Against SCE Highlights Dangers of Riverside Transmission Reliability Project

    The latest suit by Acting U.S. Attorney Bill A. Essayli has reignited the fears of the small equestrian community of Norco, who is trying to seek a safer underground solution for a proposed overhead transmission line project in their own wind- and wildfire-prone backyard.

  • July 3, 2024 - Southern California Edison Responds to Ordinance Requiring Undergrounding

    The Norco City Council has considered an ordinance to require undergrounding of utility installations, and Southern California Edison has requested that the City Council discontinue pursuing the ordinance further.

  • June 6, 2024 - Norco Continues to Advocate for Undergrounding RTRP

    On Thursday, June 6, 2024, the Norco City Council sent a formal letter to the Riverside City Council urging the Council Members to vote to reconsider undergrounding the RTRP.

  • May 7, 2024 - Riverside Considers Next Steps for RTRP

    On Tuesday, May 14, 2024, the Riverside City Council will discuss how to proceed with the Riverside Transmission Reliability Project (RTRP). Residents may submit public comments.

  • March 21, 2024 - Norco Supports Legislation to Suspend RTRP

    On March 21, 2024, the California Public Utilities Commission voted 3-0 to reject the City of Norco’s Petition for Modification to underground the Riverside Transmission Reliability Project. As a result, the City of Norco is now supporting legislative efforts to suspend the project.

  • March 16, 2024 - Norco Urges Southern California Edison to Clear Fire Danger

    The City of Norco has notified Southern California Edison (SCE) that it must clear various areas of dangerous, overgrown vegetation in its hazardous utility easements under and around the existing overhead transmission lines along the Santa Ana River.

  • March 1, 2024 - Show Your Support to Underground the RTRP

    The CPUC will make a final determination on undergrounding the RTRP on March 21, 2024 and residents may show their support in various ways.

  • February 14, 2024 - CPUC Issues Proposed Decision to Deny Request to Underground RTRP

    On February 14, 2024, the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) issued a proposed decision denying the City of Norco’s petition to reconsider the full undergrounding alternative of the Riverside Transmission Reliability Project (RTRP).

  • October 2, 2023 - Norco Files Legal Action to Underground Hazardous Transmission Lines

    On October 2, 2023, the City of Norco filed legal action requesting that the California Public Utilities Commission reconsider the full undergrounding alternative of the Riverside Transmission Reliability Project.

  • August 15, 2023 - Norco Builds Coalition to Underground Hazardous Transmission Lines

    In response to continued concerns regarding the unsightly and dangerous above-ground transmission lines, the City of Norco is building a coalition to support undergrounding the Riverside Transmission Reliability Project.

    On Tuesday, January 17, 2023, the Riverside City Council will discuss a new approach to the Riverside Transmission Reliability Project (RTRP). Residents may submit public comments.
